French-born violinist Devy Erlih (1928-2012) was one of the great names of the French violin school and one of the country's most important representatives of contemporary music at the time. He won the prestigious 'Thibaud' competition in 1955, which made him widely known, yet there are few recordings of his beautiful, imaginative and unforced playing. He is accompanied by French star pianist Brigitte Engerer, who is less well known in Germany despite her highly regarded interpretations of German Romantics such as Schubert and Schumann. Released on vinyl for the first time, this double LP includes his live performances from 1971 and 1980: Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven were recorded at the Salle Gaveau in Paris, Bach and Paganini at the Maison de la Radio in Paris. The Analogphonic release is on Virgin Vinyl, pressed by Toyokasei in Japan.
